Although the Rec ended last season in the difficult position of having to raise funds for needed facility repairs and improvements, we are hoping that the Rec will not only be open for the Summer 2015 season, but for years to come!

As an aging non-profit facility with no tax support and very low membership fees, it is not surprising that we need to solicit donations to support our mission of providing safe, local and affordable recreation opportunities to Chagrin Valley residents. However, our goal is to build our membership such that the Rec will be sustainable in the future without continual pleas for help. To this end, the Rec council has been busy working on ideas for improvements that will attract and retain members.

Clearly, however, the first step in this plan is to meet our fundraising goal of $100,000 by the end of 2014. In the coming weeks, we will be looking to businesses and residents in the community to make tax-deductible donations to enable continuing operation and rejuvenation of the Rec.  We hope that those of you closest to the Rec will support our mission by including the Rec in your year-end giving plans, pledging to join in 2015, and spreading the word to your friends, neighbors and local business contacts.

Future Plans - More Fun for Kids, More Help for Parents

Changing demographics, opening of other facilities, and the tight economic climate have led to a significant decline in Rec membership over the past several years. In order for the Rec to be sustainable for generations to come, we must reverse this trend. Immediate plans for exciting improvements aimed at attracting and retaining members include:

New fitness options using the state-of-the-art equipment in the CFHS Fitness Center, as well as offering high-energy fitness classes with on-site child care.

New membership options: In addition to the classic family membership providing access to all facilities and programming at one cost, we will also offer swim only memberships based on family size, wading pool only memberships, and individual memberships. Fitness and other add-ons will be available for all members.

• Greater flexibility in scheduling swimming lessons and expanded open swim times.

New and improved camps with extended hours.

Special events such as “dive-in” movies, team competitions, food truck days, grill nights, and grade- specific parties.

Improved playground facilities, new pavilion, and new deck furniture.

Greater birthday party options.

More information will be coming soon about keeping the Rec tradition alive -- in a mailing, through email, and in the newspapers.  Thank you for your support; we hope to see you at the Rec this summer!
