Meet Chris Hagen, the new Chagrin Valley Rec Center Director!

Chris is excited to be the new Rec director and is looking forward to a super fun summer. Chris's leadership will be key for guiding the Rec into the future with lots of exciting changes while maintaining its unique character and traditions. Our director for the past 10 years, Mary Beth Wolfe, will be helping Chris transition into his new role over the next few months and will be on site as the Facilities Director for the first part of the summer.  We are also thrilled that Jo Wintering will be returning to head the CVRC swim team program again this year!

Summer 2015 is here! Look what’s in store at the Rec…..

More flexible membership options – only pay for how you will use the Rec center! Our Classic Family Membership remains an amazing deal, with free swim and tennis lessons included for each child in the family and discounts on fees for classes and camps. However, many other options are available, including swim-only memberships based on family size, wading pool-only memberships and senior memberships.  Membership options and fees for 2015.

Fitness center and teen/adult group fitness classes with onsite child care – one of our most exciting new offerings is access to the state-of-the-art fitness center at the CF High School adjacent to the Rec center. For just $80, you can upgrade your Rec Classic Family Membership to include unlimited fitness center access for the summer for everyone in your family ages 12 and up! It will also be possible to buy membership to the fitness center only or as an add-on to a Rec swim-only membership. We are also pleased to be offering high-caliber group fitness classes for teens and adults including Total Body Conditioning, Spinning, and Water Aerobics. Moreover, our new Rec Kids Care program will provide onsite, flexible and inexpensive supervision for children ages 3 and up (8:30-noon Mon-Fri) so that you can actually fit your workout in! Rec Kids Care staff can even take your kids to and from their other Rec activities as needed. Fitness center and adult fitness information.

Expanded open swim hours!  Open swim will be starting an hour earlier and going an hour later than last year! This means open swim will be starting at noon (12:30 in big pool) on Mon-Thurs until July 23 and then at 10 am until August 18. Pools will open at 10am on Fridays and at 11am on Sat and Sun all season long. Pools will be open until 9 pm daily to help you get the most out of your summer! Time in the pool information.

More options for scheduling swim lessonsOur top-notch swim lessons will be available in sessions of 4 days/week for 2 weeks (Mon-Thurs) OR 2 days/week for 4 weeks (Mon/Wed or Tu/Th).  In addition, lessons for younger children are also being offered in the evening (Tu/Th) and on weekends (Sa/Su), 2 days/week for 4 weeks. All sessions include 8 lessons and will run between June 8 and July 30.  As always, one session of swim lessons for each child in your family is included in the price of a Classic Family Membership! Swim and tennis lesson schedules.

Unique camps and classes – new offerings as well as returning favorites!  We have an amazing array of options available to keep your kids active this summer including camps and classes run in partnership with local teachers, coaches and organizations as well as our own energetic staff. Get a preview here so that you can be ready for registration in May!

Water Aerobics- Classes run by Judy Kramer, an experienced water fitness instructor, will include working with kickboards, water weights and pool noodles to improve strength, flexibility, and overall fitness level. Exercising in the water provides low impact resistance, so it is safe and highly effective for everyone – even those with arthritis, back, foot, or knee injuries. Adjust the intensity of your workout to meet your own personal goals. Bring some friends along and make some new ones too while you enjoy some time in the pool and improve your fitness!

Special events will include the return of favorites such as Jungle Terry and our ever-popular Tween Nights as well as new family grill nights, musical performances, and an all-community pool party.

Facilities improvements – work is underway to not only get the pools into great shape, but also provide a completely reimagined and reconstructed play area surrounding the wading pool, an expanded snack bar with new choices that will appeal to both kids and adults, and new furniture on the pool deck!

More options! More fun! The Rec has something for everyone.

Registration will be at the Rec Center on May 9 & 13.

Complete brochure will be available in early April.
